Social media, social media, social media – it’s all you hear about as a business. But, do you ever feel like you are wasting your time? Banging your head against a brick wall?

So, what can you do to make your posting more effective?

By analysing your social media activity, you can dramatically improve your ‘reach’.


You wrote what you thought was a great post and it wasn’t shared or liked – in fact, its audience reach was really low. So now you’re wondering, what’s the point? Think about your audience and the time of day you are posting. Are you just posting at the same time every day as part of your routine? Try different times of day to see when your audience is more easily engaged. Also, don’t stick to week days – it may be that your audience is more active on social media at the weekends.


Do your posts encourage/lend themselves to sharing? There are many different tricks and tips to get more shares but things to think about include giving your audience useful information/advice that they will feel is useful for others; telling an interesting story; use popular hashtags and buzzwords for your industry.


Sometimes, not always, it is good to think about a post that will evoke an emotional response. Write something that people can relate to emotionally – maybe a feeling of frustration, or perhaps just the fact that you are glad it is Friday!

The most important thing is to have fun! If you enjoy writing it, your audience is more likely to enjoy reading it.
