As the Coca-Cola adverts like to proclaim, Christmas holidays are coming, just in case you didn’t know already.


Businesses up and down the country are seeing footfall ramp up as people buy Christmas presents, and there is no doubt that it is a busy time of year.

But then you get to the actual Christmas period and it becomes a very confusing time of year.

You don’t have a clue what day of the week it is because of your days off work, and when you need to pop to the shops the most, you find out that it is closed.

There’s no doubt that it’s very annoying when that happens, which is why a new feature from Bing could help local businesses up and down the land.

The search engine wants to work with local businesses to be able to advertise a business’s opening hours over holiday periods.

It wants accurate data so that people can search a business and find out a store’s opening hours in real time.

Even more helpful, Bing wants to advertise changes to opening times a week before holiday periods, so people are well-informed about when they can go to the shops during this happy but confusing time.

Not knowing whether a company is open or not isn’t just a frustration for customers. Businesses could be losing out on trade if they are closed when customers are waiting outside the front door with their wallets and purses bulging, ready to spend cash.

This project seems to just be available to the major retailers in the U.S at the moment, but there is no doubt that the search engine will want to expand that operation to our shores, and to cover as many businesses as possible.

It could be yet another great way that local businesses can market their services online.
